JAIPUR: After busting a prostitution racket on Monday, in which five girls had sent an SMS to the police claiming they had been abducted and forced into prostitution, the senior authorities of the Jaipur police commissionerate, especially the crime branch, has geared up to launch a campaign against hotels involved in these rackets. It, however, seems to be an eye wash since in the above-mentioned case the arrested manager, who was running the racket, had alleged that he was paying a hefty commission to the Harmara police station.

The girls, who were brought from Kolkata and Mumbai, were forced into prostitution and were kept hostage at Hotel Raj Inn on Sikar Road. “We got an SMS from these girls in which they had given the address of the hotel where they had been confined. A team raided the hotel and found five girls. Though the girls were booked under PITA (Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act), 1956, the owner of the hotel was booked for abduction and under other sections of IPC,” said Raghuveer Saini, additional deputy commissioner of police (crime), on Wednesday.

Police said that it was an alarming case of prostitution. “Earlier, the agents of these girls used to choose colonies like Vidhyadhar Nagar, Sodala, Jhotwara and Mansarover where they ran the rackets in rented accommodations. But now they are opting for the budget hotels,” said a senior police officer. “Now, there is a new trend where the agents directly supply girls on weekly or fortnightly basis. The managers and owners of the hotels are promised hefty commission plus a big percentage of the money earned by the girls,” Saini added.

Taking cognizance of the incident, the crime branch of Jaipur police has decided to conduct ‘surprise raids’ at the city hotels, especially at the budget hotels, in the city.

“Since Sunday, we have been conducting surprise raids. Under the campaign, some of the hotels in which these activities were found would also be checked,” said BL Soni, commissioner of police.

On the contrary, the arrested manager had also alleged that that he was paying a hefty commission to the hotel to run the racket.

“The police station got its new circle inspector merely a week ago. The hotel is in the area for the past two years. It was found there was some connivance of the police station in the case. Action would be taken against those involved in facilitating these hotels in running such rackets,” Soni added. It may be recalled that Jaipur police on Monday had found five girls allegedly involved in prostitution in a hotel and the manager of the hotel was arrested on charges of abduction.
