MUMBAI: The police on Thursday claimed to have busted a major prostitution racket in the city with the arrest of a 35 year-old Dongri resident, Mehmood Siddiqui.

The Dongri police had been on the lookout for Mehmood after an 18-year-old girl filed a complaint last month, alleging she was raped, filmed, blackmailed and forced into prostitution by her school friend and associates. The police had earlier arrested Ayaaz Sheikh (21) and Aasif Khan (26) in the case and are hunting for five others, including Mehmood’s girlfriend Nabeela.Sleuths received a tip off that Mehmood would be visit Shalimar Hotel in Bhindi Bazaar on Thursday night. A trap was laid and Mehmood was nabbed.

Assistant commissioner of police (Dongri) Ravi Thakur said Mehmood and Nabeela were the brains behind the racket. Cops questioned Nabeela’s family about her whereabouts, but they her mother and sisters said that they haven’t heard from her in two years. “She left her parents’ house two years ago to be with Mehmood.

We suspect Mehmood and Nabeela have been running this racket for some time now,” said Thakur.

“Ayaaz and Aasif did not rape the girl, but had taken her from Mumbai to Delhi. They have given us vital information about the racket,” said Vijay Mukane, senior inspector at the Dongri police station.
