Each district in the country should have one Child Welfare Committee (CWC). As reported by State Governments/ UT Administrations 548 Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) have been set in the country. The Minister of States for (I/C) of Women and Child Development Smt. Krishna Tirath today further stated in Rajya Sabha that the Government is reviewing the programme and providing financial assistance under Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) to State Governments/UT Administrations for setting up and management of CWCs

Smt. Tirath stated that as per the information furnished by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, 3,00,424 children have been rescued under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 from 2007-2010. Such children are rescued and placed into schools functioning under National Child Labour Project (NCLP) for rehabilitation/mainstreaming into regular system of education. Data specifically regarding child labour rescued and rehabilitated with the help of CWCs is not maintained in the Government.
