NEW DELHI: Women from CIS nations, who arrive on short tourist visas to make a fast buck, are again under the scanner after a flesh racket was busted in an upmarket south Delhi locality. Six women from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, including one from Nepal were arrested on Tuesday. Also in the net were two pimps – one Indian and the other an Uzbek woman.
“We got a tipoff about a prostitution racket, involving foreign nationals, being run from South Extension Part-I. We raided the area on Monday after a decoy customer struck a deal with a pimp,” said Ashok Chand, DCP (crime). The decoy got in touch with a pimp, Deepak Verma, who hails from Pithoragarh. “He took the decoy inside the house where an Uzbek woman was present along with the girls. She told the decoy the rates varied between Rs 20,000-25,000,” the police officer said.
During interrogation, the Indian go-between, Deepak, told the police that he worked for Ashish, the flesh trade kingpin, for a monthly salary of Rs 10,000. The modus operandi was simple. As soon as a client contacted Ashish, he would depute Verma to hammer out the deal. Ashish also runs a website – Delhi Top Escorts. Investigations revealed the Uzbek woman, who doubled up as a pimp, had visited India several times in the past and operated in different areas of south Delhi.
The prostitutes stayed at a rented flat for which they paid Rs 35,000 per month. “The call girls were each paid Rs 1 lakh per month, excluding food and accommodation which was paid by the pimp. They came to India on a tourist visa and would stay for two to six months. The police said they catered only to a select clientele. New customers were entertained only after they provided the reference of an old and trusted client,” Chand said.
Police officials said this points to a growing trend among women from the former Soviet Bloc countries arriving in India on tourist visas and plunging into the flesh trade for easy money.
